La Muerte/Death

Acrylic on paper
14 x 23.5 inches
$500

Our bodies are more than a metaphor.

Symbols pale on our screaming streets

where whiteness strangles purity

and reality reigns until it is changed.

Death dealers target the darkest first,

feeding on America’s schism, until ultimately

they bury the “saved” and “sacred” too.

Our murder today is yours tomorrow.

Minutes, seconds, count as centuries of

cruelty weighing on our collective neck

through endless cycles of George Floyds

resurrected only to be buried again.

Still, killing these killings is embraceable

as the crumbling towers of bias and hate

are burned down to the ground to be

reimagined as towers of truth.
